Fixture Swaps and Bathroom Rough-Ins in Valrico, FL
Installation has an order that repair work does not. Pipes go in first, get tested and inspected while the walls are still open, and only then do tile, vanity and fixtures follow. Skip a step and the cost turns up later as a torn-out wall.
Valrico gets two kinds of installation call. One is the plain swap, a toilet, faucet or sink replaced in a house that is staying as it is. The other is a remodel that moves water and drains, which in a house built on a slab usually means cutting the concrete to relocate a drain. We tell you which kind you have after the first look.
What We Install in Valrico Homes
Installation covers more than hanging a faucet:
- Toilets, including comfort-height bowls and new wax-ring or flange work
- Kitchen and bath faucets, sinks and the traps and supply lines beneath them
- Disposals, dishwasher drain connections and ice-maker lines
- Shower valves, tub spouts and walk-in shower drains
- Rough-in plumbing for added or relocated bathrooms
- Laundry boxes, hose bibs and new angle stops with braided supply lines
- Expansion tanks and pressure regulators at the main
- Softener and whole-house filter hookups with a bypass valve
A Remodel in Order: Rough-In, Test, Inspect, Trim
Florida’s residential code says no plumbing may be covered or put into use until it has been tested, inspected and approved. In practice the drain rough-in is held under water or air for 15 minutes, the supply lines are pressure-tested and the walls stay open until the inspection passes. Fixtures are filled and drained at the end.
Hillsborough County says replacing or relocating water, sewer or drain piping is not a minor repair, and a bathroom remodel with plumbing would likely need a permit. Fees and timelines are not published anywhere we can verify, so we do not quote them; ask for the permit steps in the written estimate. Interior fixtures rarely need homeowners-association approval, though a visible item such as a softener cabinet can. The remodel sequence post has the details.
Plumbing Installation Prices in Valrico, FL
A standard fixture install, meaning a toilet, faucet or sink, is $200 to $450. A full bathroom rough-in runs $1,800 to $4,500, with the distance to an existing drain and any slab cutting moving the number. An expansion tank is $250 to $450. Those figures cover plumbing only; tile, vanity and drywall are other trades. The written estimate lists what is included, stands for 30 days and is one we beat against any written quote from a licensed competitor.
Installation has edges. Gas supply piping and gas-appliance connections go to a licensed gas contractor, circuits for electric equipment go to an electrician, and well or septic work goes to registered specialists. Plumbing is licensed work in Florida, so check anyone’s license, ours included, at MyFloridaLicense.com before you sign.

Installing Plumbing in Valrico FL: Code Limits and the Inspection Sequence
Five rules that shape a fixture swap or remodel before any pipe is cut.
- The Florida residential code limits toilets to 1.6 gallons per flush, kitchen and bath faucets to 2.2 gpm at 60 psi and showerheads to 2.5 gpm at 80 psi (P2903.2). A replacement fixture has to meet those limits, so a swap is a matching job, not just a fit-the-hole job, and an old pattern may call for a different model.
- The code bars covering or using plumbing until it is tested, inspected and approved, and a drain-and-vent rough-in water test must hold for 15 minutes (P2503.2, P2503.5.1). On a remodel the walls stay open until the inspection passes, so scheduling plumbing before drywall, tile and cabinets sets the pace of the whole job.
- Hillsborough County says a bathroom remodel involving plumbing would likely require a permit, and altering, replacing or relocating water supply, sewer or drain piping is not a minor repair. If a layout change moves a toilet, tub or vanity, plan for a permit and inspections rather than a same-day swap.
- Dishwasher drain tubing must rise to the underside of the counter and be fastened there before it joins the disposer or a wye in the sink tailpiece, on a trap of at least 1-1/2 inches (P2717.2). That rise is the high loop behind many slow dishwasher drains, so it belongs in the plan whenever a dishwasher or disposer goes in.
- Under Florida Statute 489.126, a contractor who collects more than 10 percent of the price up front must apply for needed permits within 30 days and start work within 90 days after they issue. On larger installs this is a quick way to read a bid: a deposit past 10 percent starts statutory clocks, and a written, itemized estimate shows what is covered.

Before You Book an Installation
The county exempts stopping leaks and removing and reinstalling a toilet when nothing is replaced or relocated, and it treats moving water, sewer or drain piping as permit work. A like-for-like fixture swap usually stays a minor job. We confirm where yours lands before the price is written.
A full bathroom rough-in is $1,800 to $4,500 in our pricing. The spread comes from how far the new drain sits from an existing one and whether the concrete slab must be cut. Fixtures, tile and carpentry are separate, and a second quote is always welcome on a job this size.
Yes, the plumbing side: a bypass valve, a drain connection and the supply tie-in. The EPA notes that softeners discharge salt to the wastewater stream, that some jurisdictions restrict them and that septic owners should ask a service provider first. The softener and filter post covers the pressure catch.
Yes, when the new location can be drained by gravity at the right slope. In a house on a slab that often means cutting the floor, which affects the price and the permit question. We walk the route with you and write the cost of each option before anything is opened.
No. Gas supply piping and gas-appliance connections are outside what we do, and a licensed gas contractor handles them. We can still do the water side of a heater, such as supply lines, relief piping and an expansion tank. Tell us the fuel type on the call.
